JAMMU, July 2: Scores of Safai Karamcharis working in Jammu Municipal Corporation under the banner of Civic Safai Karamchari Union (CSKU) staged a protest and highlighted their demands.
Speaking on the occasion, Rinku Gill, president of the Union, demanded that the salary of Safai Karamcharis working on permanent, casual basis and under NGO system should be released on 1st of every month and both the salary and other benefits should be given to workers on the pattern of workers of other UTs of the country.
Gill also stressed that the benefit of ESIC medical scheme should be extended to permanent and casual workers as has been done for NGO workers. He also reiterated the demand of regularizing the services of 33 drivers of Jammu Municipal Corporation.
Condemning the removal of 3 NGO workers from their respective jobs for raising their voice to get timely salary, Gill said they should be reinstated with immediate effect as they raised their voice according to Trade Union Act. He also asserted to reinstate the jobs of other NGO workers who have been removed from the job citing excess employees.
Stating that there is shortage of sanitary inspectors in the field, the CSKU president said that the files of those trained, diploma holder and experienced Sanitary Supervisors who have applied for getting charge of Sanitary Inspectors, that too without any financial increase, should be cleared and they should be given charge for smooth functioning of JMC.
Gill also disapproved the seniority list issued by the JMC citing discrimination with Safai Karamcharis. “There are so many pros and cons in it like PRC, Non-PRC, etc,” he said and demanded to reconsider the list. He also reiterated the demand of one day leave for NGO and casual basis workers.
