‘Safai’ workers on strike at Vijaypur

SAMBA, July 16:  The general public of Vijaypur town is facing lot of problems as the Safai Karamcharis of  Municipal Committee Vijaypur are on strike for the last three days.
These nearly sixty (60) agitating `Safai’ workers are demanding wages of last three months. They struck work on Saturday and went on indefinite strike. Their president Tarsem Massiah alleged that the workers including daily wagers and permanent, are not paid by the Municipal Committee authorities.
Meanwhile, heaps of garbage have scattered all along the main market and lanes in the town. The drains are choked at many places and water is overflowing in the lanes which has made difficult for the public to move. Even the smell in the lanes has created problem for the passers-by, traders and  residents. The VMC authorities have failed to resolve the issue.
