JAMMU, Apr 22: Jammu and Kashmir Pensioners Welfare Federation (JKPWA)/Senior Citizens Civil Society J&K (SSCSJK) have demanded return of J&K residents stranded outside the UT.
“As the lockdown of COVID-19 continues till 3rd of May across the country, thousands of J&K residents including poor labourers and students are stuck in different states of the country. The present situation has made their survival difficult as they are without any means of survival like food, shelter, money etc,” the Federation said.
The Federation further said that a good number of people, especially those dealing with handicrafts, fruits, labourers and students from J&K are stranded in different parts of the country like Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and other parts of India who have exhausted their earnings and are facing immense difficulties and hardships.
“These stranded people from J&K are desperate to come back and remain in mandatory quarantine. It is imperative to follow regulations under lockdown but simultaneously these stranded cannot be denied help and left unattended. If the evacuation of similar stranded people from J&K is not possible at the moment during same situation, the least Government could do is to reach out to them with the help of respective state governments and provide enough food, water, shelter and other necessary items,” the Federation asserted.
The Federation also demanded that the workers/labourers/ students from other parts of country who are stranded in J&K, the arrangements for their evacuation may also be made at war footing basis for which the Pensioners Federation would provide all the necessary help in all areas of the UT.
