JAMMU, Nov 16: Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) for Chowki Choura and Akhnoor, Virender Gupta and Akhil Sadhotra, today undertook a joint inspection to review the accident-prone spots in the areas under their jurisdiction.
A statement said that SDPO Akhnoor, Mohan Lal Sharma, SHO Akhnoor, Zahir Mushtaq, officials from MES Department, and representatives from M/s R&C Infra Construction Company, accompanied the revenue officials.
It said that the inspection spanned from Hanuman Chowk, Akhnoor, to Sub-Division Chowki Choura, with the objective of reviewing and addressing the safety concerns, particularly in light of a recent fatal accident in Doda District.
During the inspection, SHO Akhnoor provided insights to SDM Akhnoor, Akhil Sadhotra regarding vulnerable points that had been contributing to recent road accidents. In response, SDM Akhnoor promptly directed the MES Authorities to install the necessary traffic signages to mitigate future risks.
Expressing serious concern about frequent road accidents in the region due to the absence of essential protection walls, breast walls, and crash barriers, SDM Chowki Choura, Virender Gupta urged MES authorities to implement immediate preventive measures. The MES Department assured swift action to enhance safety on Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch NH144.
In addition to safety measures, the long standing request of the Block Development Officer, Chowki Choura, for a solid waste management unit under the Swacch Bharat Mission received due attention.
The SDM Akhnoor facilitated the process by handing over the requisite revenue papers to the BDO, underscoring a commitment to community well-being.
