SRINAGAR, May 29: Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Ali Mohammad Sagar today said that the health sector forms top priority of the Government and several measures have been taken during the past four years to augment the infrastructure and improving the overall health scenario in the State.
The Minister was speaking after inaugurating one-day medical camp organized by Directorate of Indian System of Medicine (ISM) and Ayush Hospital at Ganj Baksh Park, Nowhatta in old Srinagar city.
Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Dr. G. N. Qasba, senior officers of ISM, health and other departments were present on the occasion.
Sagar said that the Government is committed to extend quality healthcare to the people of the state and in this regard several landmark initiatives have been initiated. He said good work done in the department has been recognized nationwide and State has been adjudged best in primary health care.
The Minister said Government has focused on upgradation of rural health infrastructure to provide medicare facility to the people of rural and far-flung areas. Under National Rural Heath Mission (NRHM), the Government has made functional all health institutions in the rural and far-off areas by posting doctors and para-medicos. The Government has also substantially enhanced incentives of doctors and para-medicos, who are posted in far-flung areas.
The Minister appealed the people of the area to come forward and avail maximum benefits from medical camp and hoped that the department would organise many more such camps in different areas of the old city Srinagar for the benefits of the people at their doorstep. He maintained that AYUSH treatment has been becoming very popular in the State as this is the safest treatment.
He impressed upon the ISM Department to create awareness amongst the masses for the promotion of AYUSH treatment and facilities being provided by the department so that people take benefits of such schemes.
