Sagar’s Dogri Gazals Fascinates

O.P. Sharma
This 112-page book titled ‘Gain Gain Zindgi ‘carries choicest Dogri Gazals by noted poet T R Magotra ‘Sagar’. The poetic compositions do have varied colours, characteristics and emotion-packed ideas and ideals. The poet has included few expressions in some couplets on prevailing social life  and present circumstances.
Poet has opined that Gazals cannot be a ‘prisoner’ of any particular religion, language or region. This genre of poetry invariably has reflections of emotions of mankind-mirroring the basic human emotions and experiences. Certainly, poetry of any language or region or even time period cannot be kept in isolation for long as the literature has its wings always spread world-wide.
Sometimes the poet takes a sky-high flight of imagination or picks up tender deep-rooted sensitive emotions and experiences of pangs of separation or pleasures of meetings in human beings. Two couplets follow:
Nikke-Nikke Dukhe Badli Ghanoi Di
Badi Dungi Peer Koi Manne ch Ghtoi di,
(There are small clouds pains in heart and deep pain have made a place in the heart) and also note the following meaningful words of poet:
Sutte de bhi Sukhane ch houne Mahesa Jagde
Ankhi Bich Tu hee, Maje bich Soune Aan
(I remain cautious while I sleep because you are in my eyes, so I sleep with joy)
Over the years, the Gazal in Dogri poetry has been making rapid strides. The emotion-charged poetry in Dogri too is now becoming an integral part of our literature.
The present book is T R Magotra’s fifth creative work of poetry in Dogri.  His first presentation ‘Kungale Pathar, Khirde Phol (A collection of Dogri poetry) in 1981, ‘Peeren Da Bhadshah’ (A collection of Dogri poetry) during 1985, ‘Gazalmala’ (A collection of Dogri poetry) in the year 1996 and ‘Hirkh Pataroo’ (A collection of Dogri poetry) during. 2006 have created their own impact in the Dogri literature. His latest book under review titled ‘Gain Gain Zindgi’ amply displays the maturity of though and leveling up of his literary creative faculty
