JAMMU, Jan 7: Rahul Sahai, Chairman of the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Jammu, met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at the Raj Bhawan in Jammu today, and made two key appeals aimed at boosting Jammu and Kashmir’s economy.
Submitting a memorandum to the LG Manoj Sinha, Sahai urged the latter to support the launch of the Vande Bharat Express train service from Jammu to Srinagar, instead of Katra.
He highlighted that this move would benefit trade, improve passenger convenience, and promote regional development by connecting Jammu more efficiently with Srinagar.
This would also help in smoother transportation of goods, benefiting both traders and tourists, he said.
Secondly, Sahai raised concerns about the upcoming end of the New Central Sector Scheme (NCSS) industrial package for Jammu and Kashmir.
He emphasized the need to extend the package to maintain industrial growth and job creation in the region, with at least 40% of new positions going to local people.
He requested that the LG take up the issue with the Prime Minister and Home Minister for a swift resolution.
Sahai believed these steps are crucial for the continued economic development of Jammu and Kashmir.
