Sahitya Akademi organizes Dogri programme at Jammu

JAMMU, Sept 15: Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, organized a Dogri programme, here today at J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages, Jammu.
The programme was chaired by Darshan Darshi (D K Vaid), Convenor, Dogri Sahitya Akademi New Delhi, and was attended by a large number of prominent Dogri writers, Artists, Language lovers, Educationists and social activists.
In the first leg of the programme, the well known and established short story writer, Shukant Deepmala read her two short stories. The stories were full of Dogri ethos and human sensibilities and were highly appreciated by the audience.
This was followed by a brief interaction of the writer with the audience which was ably moderated by Darshan Darshi, chairing the session.
The programme called as ‘Katha Sandhi’ was a part of a series of such programmes being organized by Sahitya Akademi New Delhi for promotion of Dogri language and literature.
In second leg of the programme, I D Soni, a noted educationist and social activist of the State, delivered an intellectually rich talk on his love of the language and literature. He deliberated on those books and writers which have influenced him greatly in his long life journey of close to nine decades. He made a specific mention of his native village, Bhaddu in Kathua district, which has the honour of a place of language and literature and birth place of Kavi Dattu, the father of Dogri poetry. Soni also made a mention of his close association with Dogri writers of prominence who were his contemporaries and are now alive through their writings.
He also highlighted the problems, the Dogri language is presently facing; in view of preferred importance to English language in school and college curricula. He, however, applauded the hard work and appreciable efforts being put in by the current genre of Dogri writers who will surely succeed in their mission of bringing Dogri language and literature to commendable richness and popularity.
Earlier, Darshan Darshi, Convenor, Dogri Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, gave a brief introduction of the two presenter participants of the programme and also intimated the audience about other programmes being shortly organized by the Akademi.
