JAMMU, Dec 25: Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, organized a day-long schedule of literary activities during which four programs were organized at K L Saigal Hall Jammu.
The day started with “Katha-Sandhi” in which eminent Dogri women fiction writer Santosh Sangra read her short story and shared her experiences of creative writing with the audience.
Second program of the day was “Naari-Chetana”, a panel discussion on “Issues of women emancipation reflected in Dogri literature”. The panel comprised of well known Dogri women writers Prof Veena Gupta, Nirmal Vikram, Sudesh Raj and Shakuntala Birpuri. The session was chaired by Prof Lalit Magotra, Convener, Dogri Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi.
The third session of the series of programs was a ” Dogri Poets’ Meet ” in which prominent Dogri poets : Mohan Singh, Gianeshwar, Nirmal Vinod, Vijaya Thakur, Susheel Begaana, Surjeet Hosh and Ashok Amber recited their poetry. This poets’ meet represented the latest trends in Dogri poetry as all the poets who participated are masters of their art. Their renderings established that Dogri poetry today is touching new heights, both content wise and in style.
The fourth and last session of the day’s programs was entitled “People and Books”. This was a program in which some prominent public figure, not writer, shared his/her experiences with books. This kind of program was held for the first time in Dogri and Senior Advocate Ashok Vijay Gupta talked about how various books have influenced his life and thinking.
Santanu Gangopadhyay, Assistant Editor, Sahitya Akademi, welcomed the audience and gave an introduction of the programs.
Prof Lalit Magotra highlighted the contribution of Sahitya Akademi in promoting Dogri literature and popularizing Dogri language through its literary programs and by translating Dogri works in other languages.
