JAMMU, Feb 1: Col S S Pathania, President of Sainik Samaj Party, JKUT, has expressed deep concerns over present management of Balidan Stambh, Jammu and urged Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to issue necessary instructions for its better upkeep/ maintenance and to be more friendly for tourism.
In a statement, Col Pathania said that Balidan Stambh Jammu is a unique and exquisite asset, immortalising the memory of our Army, local Police, and Central Armed Police forces, who made the supreme sacrifices ,while guarding our borders and ensuring the security and sovereignty of our nation.
“Present management is having dual responsibilities i.e. upkeep and maintenance is being looked after by Army and protection including access control is being executed by local police. Control by one agency by UT Government will certainly pay great dividends in terms of maintenance, upkeep and effective monitoring,” he said and suggested that the Tourism Department must be assigned the task to promote this beautiful memorial besides organizing various cultural events in the amphitheatre already existing.
“Ideally located in the centre of city, huge potential exists to optimise the tourism potential and invoke the feelings of patriotism, nationalism in outside visitors and our young generation. Schools must be encouraged to visit and learn about the sacrifices made by our heroes and pay them tribute,” he said and appealed that people of Jammu region too should play their role in promoting the venue and take their guests to enjoy the ambience of this beautiful asset.
