Saisthe Mahajan receives National Child Award

JAMMU, Nov 17: Saisthe Mahajan, a 10th class student of Presentation Convent School, Gandhi Nagar, brought laurels to the State by receiving National Child Award from the President of India at Rashtripati Bhawan, New Delhi on November 14, 2012.
Saisthe Mahajan daughter of Suresh Kumar Gupta and Dr Sapna Gupta, was the only child from J&K and ranked 12th amongst 26 children from all over the country who were awarded with National Child Award.
She has been awarded for her outstanding all-round achievement in Music, Art, Sports and Academics.
The award comprises of a Silver Medal, a certificate and a cheque of Rs 10,000.
She has won a number of awards in Violin playing and has been a holder of the National Cultural Talent Search Scholarship from Centre for Cultural Resources and Training, Ministry of Culture, Government of India since 2009.
Saisthe is simultaneously undergoing Graduation in Music from Akhil Bhartiya Gandharv Mahavidayalaya Mandal, Mumbai. She has won many prizes in the State level on spot music competitions held by J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. She also participated in Zonal level competitions held at Indian council for Child Welfare, UT branch, Bal Bhawan, Chandigarh, for Creative Performance in 2009.
In sports, Saisthe has won medals in District Swimming Championships in sub-junior category.
In 2008, she won Gold Medal by securing highest marks in Science in ‘International Assessment for Indian Schools’ competition conducted by the University of New South Wales, Australia.
She was awarded Balashree Award by The National Academy for Art Education, Mumbai in the year 2006. Besides Saisthe has got several Honour certificates from schools and various organizations for various activities like On-spot painting, Calligraphy, Poster-making, Computer Applications, Singing, Rangoli, Fund-raising for destitutes, etc.
