Srinagar, Sept 8: The Peoples Conference Chairman, Sajjad Lone today called former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah as poster boy of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP).
Lone told reporters at Handwara on the sidelines of the election campaign that Omar should refrain from calling his opponents as agency people or level allegations against them of being in league with the saffron party.
“Omar should be ashamed as he thinks all those who are contesting against him are doing it at the behest of agencies or they are in league with BJP. Tell me, for God’s sake, what is the solution to it? There is only one solution: that no one should contest an election against him,” he said.
Lone said that the NC leader should stop character assassination of the opponents when he was himself was a Minister in the BJP Government. “It is not good to do character assassination of the opponents when he had been the poster boy of BJP and was their Foreign Minister,” he said. “Did he forget the time when he used to defend at international level the human rights violations and killings that were taking place in Kashmir at that time,” he said.
Lone said that Abdullahs continued to be with BJP when there were communal riots taking place at several places across the country.
“After the demolition of Babri Masjid no Muslim leader was ready to rub shoulders with the BJP, it were Omar and Farooq who did it. There were communal riots at that time and they didn’t resign and continued to be with the BJP,” he said. The PC Chief also targeted Omar for levelling allegations against Sarjan Barkati.
“Barkati and his wife are in jail and his minor children are alone at home. How did he raise finger against such a person? It will be a security risk for that man when he has 100-150 security personnel in his security from New Delhi to Srinagar. They are killers, they have no mercy,” he accused.
“What he is saying is that I outsmarted agencies and Centre by contesting from Budgam. Everyone knew he was contesting from Budgam, I also knew it,” he said.
