SRINAGAR, Oct 10: National Conference leader Sajjad Shafi Uri has set a record by receiving the highest 40,000 votes in Kashmir during the Assembly elections, followed by Sakeena Itoo with 36,623 votes and Omar Abdullah with 36,010 votes.
According to data from the Election Commission of India (ECI), Sajjad Shafi Uri topped the list by securing 40,054 votes, while Sakeena Itoo received 36,623 and Omar Abdullah garnered 36,010. He secured over 80% of the votes in nearly 35 polling booths, making it the first time a candidate from Uri has achieved 40,000 votes.
Sajjad won more than 53% of the total votes cast, defeating senior politician and former Minister Chaudhary Taj Mohiuddin by a significant margin.
Locals in Uri claim that Mohiuddin had the support of the Apni Party, BJP, Pahari Forum, Raja Ajaz Ali Khan, and indirectly, Peoples Conference leaders.
Sakeena Itoo secured 36,623 votes, defeating People’s Democratic Party candidate Gulzar Ahmad Dar by 17,449 votes in the Damhall Hanjipora constituency, winning 55% of the total votes cast.
Omar Abdullah, NC vice president, won the third-highest number of votes, defeating Agha Syed Muntazir Mehdi by 18,485 votes in Budgam constituency. Omar secured 36,010 votes, accounting for 56% of the total votes cast in his constituency.
