Srinagar, June 19: After ten years of being apart, Rubina Sheikh was finally reunited with her long-lost family, owing to the efforts of the Sakhi One Stop Centre in the Baramulla district of North Kashmir.
Rubina Sheikh, a non-local hailing from West Bengal, had married Riyaz Ahmad Hajam twelve years ago in Baramulla. However, due to the loss of her mobile phone, she had lost all contact with her family in West Bengal for the past ten years.
Centre Administrator of Sakhi One Stop Centre, Bushra Bedar, spoke to the media about the case, explaining that in January 2023, they received a distressing case involving a non-local girl who expressed suicidal thoughts. “Upon investigation, it was discovered that the girl had been married in Baramulla a decade ago, but due to the loss of her mobile phone, all communication with her family had been severed,” she said.
Bedar further mentioned that Rubina had been living with her Kashmiri husband in Baramulla for the past twelve years. However, she said, through the dedicated efforts of Sakhi One Stop Centre, Rubina Sheikh has finally been reunited with her parents after a decade-long separation.
Expressing his happiness, Rubina’s husband said, “Both of us are overjoyed as my wife has been reunited with her parents after ten years, all thanks to Sakhi One Stop Centre in Baramulla. We are extremely grateful to this office for bringing my wife back to her family,” he said.
