SRINAGAR, Oct 2: Salman Anees Soz, National spokesperson of the Congress Party visited Kandi and Narwaw areas of Baramulla. He met with people in the villages of Hudipora, Pachar, Katianwali, Kaleban, Heevan, Shalteng and Kitchama. Heavy rains have caused immense damage to horticultural and agricultural lands. Farmers have suffered major losses and only a systematic assessment process can ensure transparent relief and rehabilitation. Landslides in many areas have caused soil erosion and damage to homes. In some cases, only relocation and proper rehabilitation of families will be viable.
Area inhabitants complained that assessment officers only meet politically connected persons and do not include the names of everybody who has suffered damage to property. Politicians appear to be interfering with the process of identifying victims who have suffered damage to property and loss of livelihoods.
He said it is shameful that even at a time of such a calamity, people are playing cross politics. In this context, Salman Soz urged the State Government to make public the assessment reports of the Revenue Department and make them available to people in all affected villages.
