SED organizes ULLAS Mela under NILP

SRINAGAR, Aug 23: Under the aegis of the School Education Department, the Directorate of Nav Bharat Saksharta Karyakaram, J&K, organized the inaugural ULLAS Mela 2024, here today.
The event was graced by Principal Secretary of the School Education Department, Alok Kumar, who served as the Chief Guest.
The Mela began with a tour of stalls showcasing the work accomplished by 20 districts under the ULLAS initiative. This was followed by a ceremonial lamp-lighting by the dignitaries.
Project Director of Samagra Shiksha, Rakesh Magotra, took the stage to emphasize the achievements of the department under the ULLAS (Understanding of Lifelong Learning for All in Society) initiative.
Principal Secretary Alok Kumar, in his address, described the event as a vibrant celebration of education, culture and community, drawing participation from various stakeholders and aligned departments.
He elaborated on the ULLAS – Nav Bharat Saksharta Karyakaram (New India Literacy Programme), a centrally sponsored initiative by the Ministry of Education, which aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Kumar highlighted that the vision of the ULLAS Scheme is to make Bharat “Jan Jan Saakshar” (Every Indian Literate) and is rooted in the spirit of “Kartavya Bodh” (Sense of Duty), implemented through volunteerism across the UT.
He praised the efforts of all stakeholders, noting that over 6 lakh non-literates were identified by the department. Through door-to-door visits, more than 3.10 lakh people were covered in the first phase of the ULLAS initiative.
In closing, Kumar urged all stakeholders to adopt the slogan “Each one-Teach One” to further the cause of literacy and make India a vibrant nation. The event concluded with a strong commitment to advancing the NILP to ensure that every individual in Jammu and Kashmir has the opportunity to learn and grow.
