JAMMU, Jan, 5: Samajwadi Party today held a peaceful protest near Press Club here in which large number of people from SC/ST/OBC (Pishda Dalit, Alpsankhyak -PDA) participated and displayed placards showing various demands in the interest of public.
The protest was led by Jia Lal Verma, State Head of the SP accompanied by Rakesh Verma (president, district Jammu Rural), Kuldeep Chalotra (PDA leader), Sudershan Singh (South Kashmir ex member), Geeta Manhas (State vice president, Woman Cell), Saviha Akbar (State general secretary), Lakhvinder Pal (vice president), Inderjeet (district president Samba), Sat Pal (State general secretary), Saksham Singh (district president Jammu Urban), Kamaljeet and Kapil Virdhi (State president, Youth).
The main demands which were projected in this protest including conduct OBC census; restore Darbar Move; Amit Shah apologise for Ambedkar remarks; restore Statehood; generate employment for youth; regularise daily wagers; stop EVM- restore ballet; ban online shopping etc.
Speaking on the occasion, Jia Lal Verma said that Samajawadi Party is fast expanding its base in J&K. SP is committed to address major issues in Jammu and Kashmir which included the special status of Jammu. Jammu previously enjoyed special status, which reflected the region’s cultural and historical identity. It is crucial to maintain this special status and address its significance. The rising unemployment rate among the youth in Jammu indicates an urgent need for job creation. To tackle this problem, there must be an equitable distribution of employment opportunities in both the public and private sectors. Additionally, the current Government’s disregard for labour laws is a matter of concern. Ignoring these laws could negatively impact workers’ rights and conditions, he added.
He, assured that SP is the only party which believes in welfare of PDA (Pishda, Dalit Adivasi). Conducting of OBC census, similar to the one conducted in Bihar in 2023, is essential. The restoration of full Statehood for Jammu and Kashmir is another critical issue that needs to be addressed to restore the democratic rights and autonomy of the region. Furthermore, Akhilesh Yadav’s initiative and the Samajwadi Party’s participation in the India Alliance coalition offers a ray of hope for addressing Jammu and Kashmir’s issues. Other senior leaders of the party also participated in the protest.
