SaMaPa Digital Baithak features soulful Shehnai, Tabla recitals

JAMMU, Aug 31: The SaMaPa Digital Baithak in the 9th week of the ongoing series presented by the legendary musician of India, Pandit Bhajan Sopori and music maestro Abhay Rustum Sopori featured soulful recital of a rare instrument of the country, the Tar Shehnai and enthralling Tabla duet.
‘SaMaPa Digital Baithak Series’ is exclusively running on SaMaPa’s Official YouTube Channel and has been specially designed by SaMaPa (Sopori Academy of Music And Performing Arts), the well-known educational organization of India, being held on Saturdays at 8:00 PM and Sundays at 10:00 AM.
SaMaPa is a cultural movement acclaimed as the Cultural Bridge of Jammu & Kashmir with the rest of the country and to have created a new generation of music connoisseurs. The motto of SaMaPa is ‘Jan Jan Tak Sangeet’ (music to the masses) and this Digital Baithak is intended to create a bridge between the artist and the audiences worldwide.
The first programme of the 9th week featured Ustad Baljit Singh Namdhari, an eminent Tar Shehnai player of India, presenting Raga Khamaj commencing with brief Aalap, Gat in Rupak Taal and Teentaal. He concluded his recital with a very popular Banarasi Dhun of Bharat Ratna Ustad Bismillah Khan. He was accompanied on the Tabla by his son Fateh Singh Namdhari. The introduction to the recital was presented by one of the most renowned Sitar players from England Dharambir Singh.
The other programme featured another father and son duo presenting a Tabla duet. Prof Pravin Uddhav and his son Shrutisheel Uddhav presented Vilambit and Drutlaya Teentaal with Peshkar, Bant, Rela, Kaida, etc of various gharanas of Tabla and Gat in their traditional style. The eminent Tabla exponent Ustad Akhtar Hasan from Farukhabad Gharana presented the introduction to the recital. The Baithaks were compered by well-known broadcaster and anchor Sadhna Shrivastav.
