Samba Attack: Army recovers haul of arms, ammunition

JAMMU:
Hours after the Samba Fidayeen attack, Army troops recovered haul of arms and ammunition from the slain militants at the encounter site in Samba district.
“A group of militants this morning at around 0545 hrs opened fire onto the sentry posts of an Army unit in Samba Cantonment,” Lt Col Manish Mehta-Defence Spokesperson here said.
He said the militants were holed up in a civil building outside the Cantonment, from where they were firing intermittently, adding, “the alert sentries returned fire effectively, pinning them down.”
The spokesperson said with the immediate mobilization of Army Quick Reaction Teams, the militants were effectively cordoned off and localized in a very restricted area, and were not permitted to enter the unit compounds.
He further said two AK 47 Rifles, one with UGBL, 12 magazines of AK 47, 13 Hand Grenades, two UGBL Grenades, one Chinese Pistol, 298 Rounds of AK 47 Rifles, 38 Rounds of Pistol, two Daggers, one Floating Water Bag, two Haversacks, two Tiffin Boxes, two Syringe Needles, one Mobile Cord, one Wrist Watch, one Cello Tape Black, one Pair of Hand Gloves, one Pencil Cell, one Torch and a Pair of Socks were recovered from the site of the encounter.
“There were no causalities to any civilian or Army personnel”, he said adding that the injury sustained by a civilian was not sustained in a militant attack but the individual fell off his bicycle and sustained laceration wound to forehead, while crossing the area of incident. (AGENCIES)
