SAMBA, Apr 25: Protesting against the scarcity of drinking water in Samba town and adjoining areas, the activists of Maha Sabha Samba blocked the Jammu-Pathankote National Highway for one and half an hour today.
The protesters raising slogans against the PHE authorities and administration did not allow any vehicle to pass from NH for one and half hour and despite the pleas of the concerned officers of police the protesters did not lift the road blockade due to which there was a huge traffic jam on NH.
The protesters alleged that the people in Samba town and adjoining areas were facing acute water scarcity for last four days and despite repeated pleas to authorities no steps were taken for restoration of water supply in the area.
Later DC Samba Sheetal Nanda along with SSP Joginder Singh, Additional SP and other police and civil officers visited the dharna site and appealed the people to lift the road blockade. The DC assured them that appropriate steps will be taken for restoration of water in the town. She also assured them that besides restoring piped water supply water through tankers will also be supplied in the area.
On this assurance the protesters lifted the road blockade and warned that in case the demand was not settled and water restored properly they will re-launch agitation and the authorities will be responsible for consequences.
