SAMBA, Jan 16: Following clear directions of Senior Superintendent of Police, Samba Benam Tosh, Samba police have adopted tough stance against suppliers and smugglers of narcotics and have achieved a major success by arresting a top inter-State supplier of narcotics substances from Bijbehara area of district Anantnag.
He was evading arrest for four months and is also wanted in other police stations of Jammu zone.
SSP Samba said that arrested notorious inter-State narcotics supplier, Shamas-ud-Din Ganai, who hails from South Kashmir’s Bijbehara Anantnag, was one of the top narcotics suppliers from Kashmir to Jammu region, Punjab and other states. He was wanted by Samba police in case FIR No.242/2022 U/S 8/15/25 NDPS Act dated 30.09.2022 registered at Police Station, Samba in which as much as 667 k.g poppy straw (‘Bhukki’) was recovered by police in September 2022 and one smuggler was arrested on spot.
However, the main supplier Shamas-ud-Din continued to evade arrest for months together, SSP added.
After conducting hectic raids in sensitive Bijbehara area of district Anantnag in South Kashmir by a team of police officers comprising of PSI Maneesh Sharma and PSI Nirmal Singh under the supervision of SHO Police Station Samba Deepak Jasrotia, DySP Headquarters Samba, Mohammad Usman and Additional SP Samba, Surinder Choudhary, police succeeded in nabbing the main supplier, brought him to Samba, obtained remand and started sustained interrogation. Some more arrests are likely to be made in this connection, SSP said.
