SAMBA, Nov 25: In its major success to contain the drug menace in the district, Samba police has arrested an interstate heroin smuggler and seized 600 grams of contraband valuing Rs four crore approximately in International Market.
The interstate smuggler arrested by police has been identified as Liaqat Ali alias Lucky, son of Tega of Kalichpur tehsil, Dinanagar,district Gurdaspur, Punjab.
SSP Samba Benam Tosh said a case FIR No.109/2023 U/S 8/21/22/25/27-A/29 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Ghagwal and investigation is underway.
The interstate heroin smuggler was arrested by police at Rajpura naka immediately after he entered into Samba district from Kathua side adopting border road by a private vehicle which has also been seized by police, police said. Hardcore interstate heroin smuggler was arrested by the police team led by incharge district Anti-NDPSA Team Inspector, Rahul Mahajan and Chowki Officer, Rajpura Hardev Singh Slathia under the supervision of DySP Garu Ram.
Police said that investigation is being conducted by Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by SSP Samba, Benam Tosh for commercial quantity in pursuance of PHQ directions. The SIT is headed by Additional SP Samba, Surinder Choudhary with DySP Headquarters, Senior PO, Gurpreet Kaur,SHO Police Station, Ghagwal as its members.
SSP Benam Tosh said that heroin smugglers are being dealt with an iron hand in Samba and all the infamous ‘Chitta’ hotspots have been almost smashed and isolated acts of drug peddling, supplying and smuggling are being coped with under law.
