JAMMU, Jan 24: Samiksha, a society for promotion of inclusive and sustainable development today organised 837th lecture cum interaction session of the Tree Talk series here at Government Higher Secondary School, Muthi.
The lecture was delivered by Dr OP Sharma Vidyarathi, IFS, Director of J&K Forest Research Institute. The organisation organized the programme in collaboration with the Muthi based Jammu Rural Development Society and Sharda Lal Educational and Cultural Trust and the Government Higher Secondary School, Muthi.
Dr. Vidyarthi mesmerized the participants on various facets of evolution, introduction, economic importance, traditional and modern values, scientific and mythological background, medicinal significance and social aspects of trees like the special as well as the common trees including Silver Birch, Banyan, Aonla, Bael, Putranjeeva, Sita Ashok and Ram Ashok, Harad, Bheda, Arjun, Oriental Plane, Mango, Bamboo, Rudraksh and the herbs like the Sacred Basil and Sweet Basil, Bunafsha etc.
Earlier, the welcome address was presented by the Principal of GHSS, Muthi, Manmeet Kour while Ajay Khajuria, President Samiksha delivered the key note address.
Prominent among other present in the event were Principal Manmeet Kour and Rachna Goswami of GHSS and Shining Star High School, Muthi respectively, more than 150 students, senior members of the civil society namely Sewa Dass, Former Director General, Geological Survey of India and Member SMDC, Vinod Malhotra, Former Director, Town Planning, J&K, Dr Kulbushan Sharma, President Jammu Rural Development Society and Member SMDC, JM Sharma, Former Executive Director, Power Grid Corporation of India, Subhash Antal, Former Community Health Officer and Joint Secretary, Samiksha, Rajeev Mahajan, Former Dy Director of Horticulture, Balwant Singh, Former District Agriculture Officer and many others.
Supriya Sharma and Sohan Singh anchored the proceedings and delivered the vote of thanks respectively.
