JAMMU, Jan 30: Commissioner /Secretary to Government Agriculture Production Department, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon has dwelt at length on the eligibility criteria for taking up Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojna (RKVY) scheme by the State and its aims, and objectives.
While chairing a meeting on evaluation of projects under the Centrally sponsored scheme RKVY and its allied components, he stressed for judicious and timely utilization of funds and said that appropriate documentation should be done from pre execution stage by timely formulation of comprehensive district and State agriculture plans and regular reporting of success stories, activities, photographs and progress of achievements.
Dr Samoon also stressed the need for third party impact evolution of the RKVY projects to bring in greater transparency in execution and for identification of gaps, loopholes and to suggest measures to plug them for betterment of farming community.
Dr I A Hammal Vice Chancellor, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University stated that besides other thrust areas saffron cultivation, bee keeping, farm mechanization and production to post harvest management and marketing linkages need to be properly envisaged in the projects.
Dr A R Trag Vice Chancellor Islamia University of Sciences & Technology (IUST) Awantipora, Kashmir referred to progress made in sericulture sector and mechanization in Kashmir Division.
Meanwhile Project Director ATMA, Jammu Dr V S Verma reviewed the field activities of the scheme at a meeting here. The Deputy Project Director and leader of District Surveillance Committee of Yellow rust of wheat apprised that the disease might attack wheat crop due to prevailing weather conditions being favourable for the development of the disease.
He informed that the field staff has been directed to visit their respective blocks for surveillance of yellow rust disease during the current Rabi season.
The Department has already given advisory measures to field staff regarding controlling the disease.
Ravinder Kachroo, Deputy Project Director informed the meting that the demonstrations of vegetables peas and wheat crop were being closely monitored by the ATMA team.
