DODA, Aug 4: While laying stress on sustainable development of agriculture and allied sectors in the region, Dr. Asgar Samoon, Commissioner Secretary, Agriculture Production Department, said that rain water harvesting and community tube wells help in development of agricultural production in the erstwhile Doda district as the region is drought prone and concrete efforts are needed for welfare of the poor farming community.
Dr. Samoon was on a visit to Doda and Ramban districts to review the activities of Agriculture and other allied Departments in a meeting of officers.
While addressing the meetings, Dr. Samoon laid stress on awareness programmes in rural and far flung areas so that benefits of State and Centrally sponsored agricultural developmental schemes reaches to the targeted farming community. He said Technological and Scientific advancements needs to be fully adopted and implemented in the region to enhance the production and to cope up with the demand and supply. He added that adequate marketing facilities, opportunities and guidance will be provided to the farming community and asked the farming community to cultivate hybrid and disease resistant varieties of crops, vegetables, fruit plants, oil seeds etc to get better production and enhanced economic benefit.
It was revealed that irrigation through Khuls, Irrigation pumps sets, water harvesting tanks and other sources is being provided where ever possible.
Dr. Sammon directed the officers to prepare DPRs of Lift Irrigation Schemes, Rain Water Harvesting projects, Community Tube wells so that better irrigation facilities could be provided to the farming community for the concrete growth and development of agriculture and other allied sectors in the region. He also said that sensitization of farmers and field functionaries of the departments is essential for better results.
The Commissioner also reviewed the progress on various agriculture developmental activities and programmes launched under various Central and State sponsored schemes being implemented by Horticulture, Fisheries, Agriculture, Sericulture, Animal & Sheep Husbandry and Horticulture Planning and Marketing Departments. He directed the officers to expedite the pace of issuance of Kissan Credit Cards (KCC) among the farmers in the region.
Earlier, Dr. Samoon interacted with farmers, fruit growers and enquired them about the benefits they are getting from the concerned government agencies. He also interacted with the progressive orchardists/ farmers/ sarpanchs and listened to their problems related to these departments.
