SAMBA, Feb 17: Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education Department, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon today visited Government Degree College to review its functioning including status of infrastructure and developmental projects underway for ensuring quality of education being offered by the institute.
Deputy Commissioner, Sheetal Nanda also accompanied the Commissioner Secretary on the tour.
Dr Samoon was informed that multi-storey Lecture Hall Block (G+3), Laboratory Block, Canteen Block, Chowkidar Quarter and a Sports Activities Room will be constructed in a phased manner under Capex Budget 2017-18 for which DPRs have already been prepared by the PWD. Additionally, under RUSA, PWD will also expedite up-gradation work of Library Block, Administrative Building and Common Room for Girls.
Commissioner Secretary directed PHE Department to prepare fresh cost offer for digging of additional bore well and water reservoir in the college. He was informed that Flood Control Department will soon take up construction of protection wall around college premises.
Later, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon also reviewed the latest status of various works taken up under Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan by Jammu and Kashmir Universities at PWD Guest House, Jammu.
For Cluster University, Jammu, Chief Engineer, PWD-Jammu informed that overall 80% work of all projects has been completed. Dr Asgar directed Chief Engineer, PWD-Kashmir/ Jammu to ensure completion of infrastructure in their respective Cluster Universities within stipulated time period.
General Manager, JKPCC briefed the meeting about the status of construction of Engineering Colleges to come up at Safapora and Kathua. The agency was directed to expedite the work and complete the project within stipulated time period.
Meanwhile, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon reviewed the functioning of regional centre of IIMC.
The meeting was also attended by Director General IIMC, K G Suresh, Advisor Constructions, IIMC MI&B, R N Roy, Deputy Registrar, IIMC MI&B, PVK Roy and Special Officer IIMC Jammu, M Khajuria.
The meeting was informed that MoU for establishment of permanent campus of regional centre of IIMC, Jammu has been signed between the State Higher Education Department and Indian Institute of Mass Communication, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India.
It was also informed that land measuring 122 kanals has been acquired for establishment of the main campus against compensation of Rs 124.46 lakh provided by the State Government.
Director General IIMC, MI&B informed that master plan is being prepared for overall functioning of IIMC, Jammu which would enhance the intake capacity of the institution. It was informed that 10-15% seats will exclusively be reserved for the aspiring students of J&K State.
Dr Asgar Samoon assured full support of the department for establishment of the institution. He informed that the approach road has already been developed for the main campus site and water and electric facilities shall soon be provided by the state Government.
