LEH, Mar 26: Commissioner/Secretary Animal and Sheep Husbandry UT Ladakh, Rigzin Samphel today chaired a follow-up meeting to mitigate dog menace and draw solutions regarding stray animals in the region.
Samphel had a discussion regarding requisites construction of shelter for stray animals with Director Animal and Sheep Husbandry, Dr Mohd Raza.
Disease Investigating Officer Animal Husbandry Leh, Dr Stanzin Rabgias, Assistant Director Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Leh, Sherab Gyaltson, General Secretary SPCA, Phuntsog Wangyal and member (SPCA) Leh, Diskit were also present during the meeting.
SPCA team apprised the Commissioner Secretary that they would provide food to the stray animals of Leh town and its adjoining areas for a period of one month. They further suggested that charity and voluntary services by Samaritans is making them convenient to render such service. A long-term plan was chalked out for the stray animals in today meeting in which they decided that a shelter with a capacity for 5000 dogs will be constructed at the allotted land at Bomb-garh.
Commissioner Secretary asserted to begin the construction work of the shelter house in the month of April.
