JAMMU, June 22: As a part of its nation-wide Jail Baro Andolan hundreds of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activist led by Party MP and National president of its Mahila Morcha, Samriti Irani today courted arrest here against inflation and rising corruption in the country. However the party activists also protested against the prevailing power and water crisis in Jammu region.
The BJP activists including a sizeable number of women who earlier assembled at Dogra Chowk held a demonstration raising anti UPA and Coalition Government slogans for their failure in containing prices and eradicating corruption from public life. They also held the State coalition responsible for the plight of people of Jammu region who are facing worst ever power and water crisis.
With pla -cards and banners in their hands the BJP activists tried to march towards the Tawi Bridge to disrupt the movement of vehicular traffic but heavy deployment of police restricted their movement.
They were put in six police vehicles and taken to Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas where from all of them were released late in the afternoon.
Among other senior BJP leaders who court arrested included BJP’s Seh Prabhari for J&K R P Singh, state president Shamsher Singh Manhas, Ashok Khajuria, National Executive Member and state chief spokesperson, Dr Jitendra Singh, Party MLA Ch. Sukhnandan, BJYM state president Manish Sharma and its Mahila Morcha chief Sakina Bano.
Earlier addressing the gathering Ms Irani condemned UPA Government at the Centre for its wrong policies and held it responsible for price hike and rising corruption in the country. She also made a dig at state coalition saying that she was shocked to know that people in Jammu region face 17 -hour power cut in this hot Summer.
She said the Central Government has failed to control the inflation and also termed Dr Manmohan Singh as ‘Proxy Prime Minister’ alleging that he is not a decision maker.
She also alleged that scams laden Congress party has always ‘backstabbed’ the people of the country and failed to meet their aspirations.  The promises made by the Prime Minster Dr Manmohan Singh in 2009 general elections that within 100 days of new Government formation prices will be under check and unemployment will be eradicated but till date nothing has been done. This Government has failed to keep promises.
Mrs Irani also lashed out at the UPA for fielding Pranab Mukherji against the NDA candidate P A Sangma who is an Aadivasi and it shows that UPA is totally against weaker sections of the society.
R P Singh  in his address said that price were under check when Vajpayee led NDA ruled at Centre and they suddenly skyrocketed after the UPA came to power.
Ashok Khajuria and Shamsher Singh Manhas, while accusing the successive State Government of discrimination with Jammu region said soon after the offices moved to Srinagar the power and water crisis engulfed Jammu.
Hundreds of Party activists led by BJP senior vice president Chander Parkash Ganga courted arrest at Samba. Raisng slogans against the State and UPA Government the irate party activists accused their wrong policies for the present mess in the State and country.
Similarly, BJP State General Secretary (Org.) Ashok Kaul, alongwith 210 activists of the party including MLA Jugal Kishore, State General Secretary Satish Sharma, National Executive Member Thupstan Chhewang, Ex-CEC Tsering Dorjey along with large number of BJP activists courted arrest at Leh in Ladkah
National Executive Member Dr. Nirmal Singh, along with State Vice-presidents Pawan Gupta courted arrest at Udhampur. Col. Uttam Singh and Kissan Morcha President Karan Singh courted arrest at Akhnoor.
Seh-Prabhari Kashmir Dr. Ali Mohd. Mir along with Sheela Handoo courted arrest at Kothi Bagh, Sriangar. At Budgam the party activists were led by Manzoor Ahmed Bhat and Sanaullah Beig. State Secretary Vibodh Gupta and Distt. President Yogesh Sharma courted arrests along with party activists at Rajouri town. State Secretary Rajiv Jasrotia and Distt. President Chaggar Singh were arrested at Kathua with party activists. At R.S. Pura State Spokesperson Ramesh Arora and MLA Shyam Choudhary led the over 500  activists to court arrest. Pardeep Sharma and Sunil Gupta led the party activists to court arrests at Poonch. Capt. Ramesh Sharma and Raj Kumar courted arrests at Sunderbani with party activists.
