JAMMU, July 13: ‘Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas’ will be a perfect counter to the planned murder of democracy and the Constitution by the then Congress Government led by Indira Gandhi. It will also be a token of respect to all the sufferers of the atrocities and the crusaders against the dictatorship of Congress Government, said Chander Mohan Sharma, senior leader BJP.
Shaminder Kumar, Sat Paul Rathore and Rajinder Kumar Gupta also accompanied Chander Mohan Sharma, while he addressed a press conference at party Headquarter, Trikuta Nagar, here, today.
Sharma, hailed the decision of Government of India to observe June 25 of every year as ‘Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas’.
“Home Minister, Amit Shah said in a statement that by observing this day the country will pay tribute to all those persons who were jailed for no fault of theirs, to all those who suffered atrocities, all those individuals who were forcibly subjected to sterilization. Illegal demolition of houses and localities and forcibly termination of Government employees from service”, said Sharma.
It was the day when an emergency was declared in the year 1975, by the then Indira Gandhi Government. By making the 42nd Amendment to the Constitution of India the judiciary was rendered teeth less. Judges of Higher Judiciary were superseded. The top brass of the Army was also superseded. The tenure of democratic fora was extended to six years from five years. Congress Government had committed a historical sin by imposing an uncalled-for emergency just to save seat of power in the Centre and also to save Indira Gandhi from being unseated on account of the verdict of the Allahabad High Court, said Sharma.
Total 12 lakhs political activists were jailed under MISA and DIR, in different states including J&K State which was being ruled by Sheikh Abdullah. Nightmare continued till March 21 in 1977 when Indira led Congress Government lost the general elections and Janata Party after being victorious formed the Government in the Centre releasing all political prisoners thereafter, said Sharma.
All the released prisoners and crusaders against the dictatorship of Indira Gandhi were honoured publically at different places.
“Allahabad High Court had declared these persons as Loktantra Senanis and directed Government to provide them a similar status likewise Freedom Fighters,”. Many of the State Governments provided them with similar status and also granted handsome honorarium”, he added.
