Sanction of Medical College at Udhampur historical achievement: Pawan Gupta

UDHAMPUR, Aug 1: People of Udhampur feel blessed with happiness when Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (GoI) asked J&K Government to submit a proposal for establishment of two Medical Colleges in the State one each at Udhampur and Handwara.
As the news spread in the late evening yesterday people started gathering at Pawan Kumar Gupta, Ex-Legislator’s, residence. Large number of people drawn from all walks of life hailing from rural and urban area of Udhampur appreciated Pawan Kumar Gupta for his tireless efforts in getting the Medical College sanctioned at Udhampur which was a long pending demand of the people.
Later Pawan Gupta organised a press conference at his residence and congratulated the people of Udhampur and conveyed his sincere thanks especially to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, Union Health Minister, Dr. Harshvardan, MoS (PMO), Dr. Jitendra Singh, Governor Satya Pal Malik Advisor to Governor, K. Vijay Kumar and DDC Udhampur Dr. Piyush Singla.
Talking to media, Gupta displayed the copies of correspondence between him and concerned Ministry for sanctioning Medical College in Udhampur. Pawan Gupta claimed that upcoming Medical College will be finest hospital in the district. He further said that District Hospital Udhampur deserved to be converted into Medical College as it is the first hospital in the State to get National Quality Assurance Certificate coupled with wining of first and 2nd Award under Kaya Malak Scheme and it is the second hospital after GMC Jammu in case of both OPD and IPD.
After its conversion into Medical College, no patient will be referred to Jammu, he said. It is pertinent to mention here that Gupta has raised the demand for establishing Medical College at Udhampur since long when he even was not a legislator and after becoming legislator he took forth the demand and raised his voice in the District Development Board meeting on May 14, 2016 and on the floor of the Legislative Assembly on June 6, 2017 and later January 23 last year by means of a Cut Motion. Being given to understand from the media regarding plan of Government of India for conversion of 75 District Hospitals in unserved area of the country , Gupta forcefully took up the matter with Dr. Jitendra Singh that District Hospital Udhampur be upgraded as Medical College under the scheme.
In the end Pawan Gupta whole heartedly congratulated the people of Udhampur and conveyed his thanks to all staff of District Hospital Udhampur including CMO and Medical Superintendent of the District Hospital, Udhampur for their tireless efforts to make it able for this marvellous achievement.
