SAMBA, Sept 24: The villagers from Sandi in Ghagwal block, called of their protest dharna-cum-hunger strike programme today.
Deputy Commissioner Samba Mubarak Singh along with some district officers visited the village today and assured the villagers on behalf of the Divisional Commissioner to take up their issue with the concerned Army authorities. On the assurance of the District Administration, the villagers called off their agitation.
Today was the fifth day of their hunger strike-cum protest dharna at Sandi village. These villagers are demanding compensation for the land which came under firing range of Army and also ex-gratia/ relief for the victims who killed/ injured during firing practice in last more than one decade. IDP activists were also sitting with the villagers on hunger strike besides some Panchayat members.
