REASI, Mar 27: Sangam Theatre Group Reasi celebrated World Theatre Day by staging Dogri play `Bawa Jitto’ at its office Studio, here today.
M Akram Khan, Director STG gave a brief about the significance and the history of the celebrations of World Theatre Day, which was initiated in 1961 by the International Theatre Institute (ITI) UNESCO, Paris. It is celebrated annually on the 27th March by the world theatre community.
Mr Khan said that the World Theatre Day highlights the importance of theatre arts, how they played an important role in the field of entertainment and the changes that theatre brings in life.
On the occasion, Dogri play ‘Bawa Jitto’ was staged by artist of Sangam Theatre Group. The story of ‘Bawa Jitto’ portrays the age-old saga of exploitation of landless farmers by landlords. Due to the constant and persistent pressures of relatives, with a piece of land as bone of contention, Bawa Jitto, a hard working landless farmer was forced to leave his native village. Accompanied by his nine years old daughter, he takes shelter in the house of a friend in Shama Chak, a nearby village.
The artist who played the roles in the play, included Rohit Kumar, Inderjeet Singh, Anannaya, Akshita Thakur , Anil Kumar, Pallavi, Sarita, Aditya Sharma, Rajit Sharma, Rashav Kumar, Veer Singh, Shuhbam Sharma and Pankaj Sharma.
On the occasion, senior actors, including Mohan Lal, Naseeb Singh, Shadab Khan, Rajesh Kumar and Khajoor Singh interacted with the junior artists.
