Sanghrash opposes amendment in RTI

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Sept 23: Sanghrash- an RTI Movement has urged the State Congress leadership not to go for amendment in the Right to Information Act.
In a memorandum submitted to the PCC president Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz  here on Saturday, the activists of the Sanghrash strongly opposed the recent decision of the State Government to amend the RTI Act rules. They said the Government has  also issued an SRO in this regard. They alleged that even the members of the Jammu and Kashmir State Information Commission were not consulted or taken into confidence before taking such a decision.
They pointed out that there was enormous public anger against these amendments  and many RTI activists and other political parties and social organizations have been protesting against this order which is against the principles of transparency and accountability. They said even the Central Chief Information Commissioner Wajahat Habibullah has expressed his displeasure over these amendments and asked for a roll back on the proposed amendment and SRO.
The members of the delegation sought the intervention of the PCC president who is also chairman of the State Coordination Committee and demanded that Government should review its decision.
