JAMMU, Feb 27: Describing Sant Sri Gora Ji Maharaj as a preeminent saint of his time, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand said that great saints and seers of the country have shown the righteous way of living based on mutual co-existence, love and devotion to the supreme lord.
He said spiritual Gurus through their teachings fought against the social evils and dogmas prevalent in the society and have preached the message of equality and brotherhood in society.
Mr. Tara Chand was addressing birth anniversary function of Sant Sri Gora Ji Maharaj, here today. The function was organised by Prajapati(Kumhar) Sabha, Jammu.
Former Minister R.S. Chib, MLA, Bishnah Ashwani Sharma and other prominent members of the community attended the function. President, Ayodhya Kumar Manawa conducted the proceedings at the event.
Calling upon civil society at large to follow the path shown by great Munis and Rishis, the Deputy Chief Minister said that real tribute to the saints is to adopt their teachings in life and work for establishing an egalitarian society.
He said saints besides preaching for a spiritual way of living, also taught for establishing a class less society in which all human beings are equal before the God and nobody is supreme by birth.
Listing various social sector schemes launched by the Government, Tara Chand said with the active support of Central Government a number of welfare schemes have been launched in the State, so as to provide succor to those living below poverty line.
The Sabha presented a charter of demands to the Deputy Chief Minister. The demands include grant of pre-matric scholarship to OBC students, grant of post matric scholarship to OBC students within State and outside State, grant of OBC/OSC certificate to OBC communities, grant of loan to OBC artisans, construction of toping of two nallahs surrounding by Sant Gora ji Maharaj Temple, BC Road, construction of community hall in Shri Sant Gora Temple premises, nomination of members to OBC communities as MLA/ MLC, State Commission for Backward Classes/ SC/ST/ OBC Corporations, Women Development Corporation, Municipal Corporation, town area communities, nomination of OBC women in panchayat and other institutions and implementation of Supreme Court decision regarding 27 per cent reservation in favour of OBC communities vindicated in the year 1992.
The Deputy Chief Minister assured that the demands of the community would be projected at the right forum and all genuine demands would be addressed in a phased manner.
