JAMMU, Aug 22: A book of collection of Dogri plays entitled “Doorai Da Rishta”, written by Santosh Sangra, a senior Dogri writer and an outstanding Radio artist, was released in a simple but impressive function by Dogri Sanstha Jammu.
S K Sharma, Addl Commissioner Income Tax Deptt. Jammu was the chief guest on this occasion. A large number of Radio, Stage & Television artists, writers of various languages and prominent citizens attended the function.
A special highlight of the function was a reading performance by veteran Radio artistes who included Madan Rangeela, Janak Khajuria, Tarun, Vipin and Santosh Sangra herself, who performed two roles. The audience remained spell bound by the presentation and there was a loud applause at the conclusion of the performance.
Earlier, a very scholarly and thought-provoking paper on the released book was presented by Prof Veena Gupta, Vice-President of Dogri Sanstha and former Head of the Deptt of Dogri, University of Jammu.
S K Sharma, who is himself a Hindi playwright commended Santosh Sangra for coming up with such a valuable book in Dogri. While speaking on merits of the book, he said that the main two dominant themes of these plays are women empowerment and social transformation. He emphasized that both these topics are most relevant to Indian society, especially Dogra society. He appreciated the positive approach which the playwright has adopted in these plays. He also complimented the Dogri Sanstha for providing platform to the writers to showcase their works.
Earlier, Prof Lalit Magotra, President of Dogri Sanstha, highlighted the multidimensional personality of Sangra and enormous contribution that she has made to Dogri literature, language and to theatre. He said that she has played many memorable roles on the stage and radio which have made a deep impact on the audience and listeners. Her commitment to the upliftment of womenfolk and concern for their rights comes through almost all of her creative works, including the released book.
The program was conducted and anchored by Promila Manhas, who is herself an outstanding poet and themes of her poems are also women empowerment. The vote of thanks was presented by Dr Chanchal Bhasin , Secretary of Dogri Sanstha Jammu.
