Sarpanch held for killing youth

Srinagar, Aug 8: Police today arrested a Sarpanch in Central Kashmir district of Ganderbal for his alleged involvement in the killing of a youth on Monday.
Inspector General of Police (IGP), S M Sahai said here that Sarpanch of village Sindbal in Ganderbal Mohammad Subhan Wani son of Ali Mohammad and Ali Mohammad Sheikh son of  Assadullah Sheikh have been arrested for their involvement in the killing of Shabir Ahmad while hunt for the main accused in his murder is on.
The IGP said that after registering the case (FIR No 24/1012) Police are investigating the case vigorously and have raided a number of places during which the two persons were arrested.
He said that besides expediting the investigation of the murder, police will continue to take all necessary measures for maintaining calm in the area. “Law will take its own course in booking the culprits involved in the murder of Shabir Ahmad Bhat at Sendhbal Ganderbal”, he added.
It may be recalled that  Shabir Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Nabi Bhat was  killed in a local Masjid at Sindhbal on Monday.
Meanwhile, Chairman of hardline faction of Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, today demanded arrest of a Sarpanch, who, he alleged,  killed a youth in Sindbal village of central Kashmir district of Ganderbal early this week.
