Sarpanch, Panch among 4 persons injured in ‘Gram Sabha’ meeting

Srinagar, Mar 2: At least four persons, which included a Sarpanch and Panch, were injured after a scuffle broke out between two groups during a ‘Gram Sabha’ meeting in Nesbal area of Bandipora district today.
An official said that the situation turned grim after two groups, part of a ‘Gram Sabha’ meeting presided over by a local Sarpanch in Nesbal, engaged in verbal altercation with each other over distribution of solar lights. The meeting among others was also attended by Panchs and senior citizens of the area.
As the meeting was in progress, the arguments heated up and the participants with divided opinions came to blows. At least 4 persons were injured in the melee and were rushed to Sub-District Hospital Sumbal.
The injured were identified as; Mehraj Din Rather son of Abdul Hameed Rather (Sarpanch), Ghulam Mustafa Rather son of Jallal-ud-Din (Panch), Mohammad Shafi Rather son of Ghulam Mohammad Rather and Abdul Majeed Bhat son of Sanaullah – all residents of Nesbal Sumbal.
After initial treatment, Sarpanch Mehraj Din Rather and another person Mohammad Shafi Rather were referred to a Srinagar hospital for preferential treatment.
Police registered two cases in this regard. “Both the parties approached leveling allegations against each other and as such two cases vide FIR numbers 18/2022 and 19/2022 were registered”, a police official said adding further investigations are on.
