Sarpanch shoots wife to death, arrested

RAJOURI, Sept 14: The police has arrested a village Sarpanch for killing his wife with his licensed gun in Sunderbani Sub Division of district Rajouri today.
Official sources said that during the intervening night of Sept 13/14, an information was received at Sunderbani Police Station that one person namely- Yashpal, son of Tirth Ram, resident of Patrara, who is also Sarpanch of Panchayat Halka Patrara, fired upon his wife with VDC .303 Rifle, resulting serious injuries to the wife, Neelam Devi (46 yrs).
The victim was shifted to SDH Sunderbani by her other family members where doctors provided preliminary treatment and then referred her to GMC Hospital Jammu for further treatment.
On this information case FIR No 63/2023 U/S 307/323 IPC and 30 Indian Arms Act was registered against the Sarpanch.
A police team from Sunderbani rushed to the spot and collected all relevant evidences and arrested the accused Sarpanch- Yashpal from Patrara. The weapon of offence was also seized.
The police said later, the injured Neelam Devi succumbed to her injuries in GMC Jammu today. The police has now added offence under Section 302 IPC in the instant case.
The dead body of the deceased has been handed over to her legal heirs after completing all the legal formalities.
