Sarpanches, public protest at SDM office, demand SHO’s suspension

KATHUA, Aug 17: Several Sarpanches and Panches led by local people of Bani Sub Division staged strong protest outside the office of SDM Bani today against the late night dance of the girls and policemen in uniform and other selective guests of the Station House Officer on August 15 inside the Police Station and demanded suspension of the SHO.
The Sarpanches were raising loud slogans against the SHO Bani, Hassan Kamaal, Policemen and the Sub Divisional Administration, besides the State Administration. They alleged that in sheer violation the COVID-19 guidelines the dance party by inviting girls from Punjab was held inside Thana where no body was wearing masks. Even SHO Hassan Kamaal was seen without face mask and throwing currency notes on the girls. The blew of money on dancers was going on openly with loud hootings.
They alleged that most of the people inside were drunk and even cops in uniforms were dacing and raising loud noices. Some special guests were also invited on the dinners party but girls dance started after they left. The round of liquor started there after and DJ was set at high pitch till mid night causing disturbance in the whole town. They said in the history of Bani it never happened. They had seen in the movies or heard that such things happen in UP- Bihar Thanas some times but not here in J&K, they alleged.
Later, they submitted a memorandum to the SDM Bani, Joginder Singh and demanded action against the SHO and others. In the written complaint they have also alleged massive corruption in the department for the last several months. They gave two days time to the Administration and threatened to launch indefinite agitation till the action is taken against SHO.
SDM Bani Joginder Singh when contacted said some Sarpanches along with locals lodged protest today in his office complex. They were protesting against the late night dance alognwith girls inside Thana on August 15. They have also submitted a written complaint and he has forwarded the same to the Deputy Commissioner/DM Kathua for action.
District Magistrate/ DC, Kathua, O P Bhagat, however, said that he has forwarded the complaint to the SSP Kathua, Shalindra Mishra for taking action in this regard. He said since Mishra is under quarantine for some days, Addl SP, R K Gupta is holding temporary charge. The DM said he has seen the video of Bani Thana and dance as well which went viral on social media. When asked as DM, what action he has taken against SHO Bani Hassan Kamaal and others for not wearing masks, not maintaining social distancing and violating COVID-19 guidelines, Bhagat said he was scrutinizing the record/ videos etc. Till now no action has been taken in this regard, but action will surely be taken for COVID violations at Bani Thana, the DM Kathua maintained.
