KISHTWAR, Sept 29: Police arrested son of a Sarpanch for raping his live-in partner on the pretext of marriage in Haryana.
As per police sources, a Haryana based girl along with team of Haryana police headed by ASI Sheela Devi approached Kishtwar police for arrest of 24-year-old Rahul Baghat, son of Satish Kumar Baghat (sarpanch), a resident of Begana Kishtwar for allegedly raping her on the pretext of the marriage.
The complainant, who works in a private company stated that she and the accused came in contact through social site ‘Facebook’ and both started living together in a rented accommodation as husband-wife in Haryana.
The accused, who was pursuing his engineering degree from a local college in Haryana raped the complainant after promises her that he will marry her. Later, the accused back-stepped and abandoned her, which forced the girl to lodge complaint against him with Haryana police.
A case under Section 376 and 506 IPC was registered and to arrest the accused, Haryana police along with complainant reached Kishtwar.
The accused first managed to escape, but police team from Kishtwar police station led by SHO Inspector Sameer Jeelani under the supervision of SP Kishtwar Yougal Manhas arrested him from a hideout in Kishtwar.
The accused was handed over to Haryana police on the transit remand of 3 days for further investigation into the case registered with them.
