Srinagar, Mar 5: Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE) today issued an avalanche warning in North Kashmir’s Tangdhar area where 200 people who were caught in avalanches were rescued yesterday.
A warning issued jointly by SASE and disaster management cell said medium danger avalanches could occur at higher reaches of Chowkibal and Tangdhar in Kupwara district.
The spokesman said that there is no need to panic but advised people to take precautionary measures and not to venture in avalanche prone areas. “The warning will remain in effect for next 24 hours”, he said
The warning was issued after fresh snowfall in the hills. There has been fresh snowfall in upper reaches in North Kashmir, including Keran, Karnah, Machil, Neeru and Tangdhar since Monday.
