JAMMU, May 15: A delegation of Auto Drivers and Owners met BJP MLA Jammu West Sat Sharma (CA) at Party Headquarters and apprised him of the problems being faced by them from Traffic Police Department and Legal Metrology Department in the recent times by submitting a memorandum to him.
The delegation was headed by Shanti Swaroop Gupta, President of the Auto Union. They said that the new rule of installing Meters by the Legal Metrology Department is a good initiative but the time given by them for installing meters in the Autos is very short as majority of the Auto Drivers are not financially well off and there are large queues in the department where meters are being installed. They also stated that the rate of fine imposed by the concerned department is between Rs two to three thousand and it is impossible for a needy person like a Auto Driver to cope with such a fine who is barely able to satisfy the needs of their family.
The delegation also stated that they are facing humiliation through the hands of Traffic Police Department officials and officials of Legal Metrology Department as well and the concerned department for installing meters are also charging extra fees as compared to the nominal fees. They also said that there is so much negligence in the department as the stamp for renewal of meters is done annually then why the meters are not still in working condition.
The MLA took up the issue with Minister for Transport Abdul Ghani Kohli and apprised him of the problems being faced by the Auto Drivers and Owners. The Minister assured that a viable solution will be found of their problems.
The MLA also took up the issue with DIG Traffic Ashqoor Wani and fixed a meeting of ten Member Committee of Auto Union which will be headed by Mandal President, BJP Ayodhya Gupta with the DIG.
The MLA also assured the delegation that this is a very serious issue and every possible help to the Auto Union will be provided as they constitute a very important part of the society.
