NEW DELHI, May 25: Expressing concern over the introduction of the ‘Nitaqat’ scheme in Saudi Arabia, the BJP today said nearly one lakh Indian workers in that country will be rendered jobless after the new law.
“The failure in regularisation of work status of the Indian labour force in Saudi Arabia has forced a mad rush for emergency exit certificates to be obtained from the Indian mission. This is a unsavoury and unfortunate situation,” BJP Overseas Affairs cell convenor Vijay Jolly said in a statement.
The ‘Nitaqat’ law makes it mandatory for local companies to give job to one Saudi national for every 10 foreign workers.
Mr Jolly said New Delhi should have taken adequate steps well in advance to protect the Indian labour force working in Saudi Arabia.
He said though the BJP considers that the Saudi government is well within its own rights to implement their own laws, but it was imperative upon New Delhi to have taken pre-emptive steps to protect Indian interests in Saudi Arabia. (UNI)
