This has reference to the article ‘Save the consumer’ by Vikram Gour DE Jan 29. The author has touched an issue that concerns all of us, but nobody particularly the Government agencies are bothered about it.
It is free-for-all situation in the market. The shopkeepers and vendors charge rates as per their whims least caring for the common man. Whether they sell adulterated food items or pure, no one checks them regularly.
The concerned agencies come into action periodically, or whenever anybody lodges complaint with them. Otherwise, they act like silence spectators. There is urgent need to make consumer organisations more strong for the sake of consumers. More consumer courts need to be opened to redress the grievances quickly. There should be provisions in the law to give severe punishment to those found violating the law.
