Sir,
Refer news item ‘Gharana Wetland shrinking at rapid pace….” DE May 30, 2017.
It will indeed be a great loss to Jammu Division if world famous Gharana Wetland is not saved right now. It is one of the major attractions and has its own importance, and has no parallel in the entire Jammu Division. During winters when thousands of birds migrate from cold environs of Siberia to this place, it becomes a treat to eyes. The winged visitors create a mesmerising spectacle. One can feel the agony of farmers living in vicinity whose crops get damaged due to presence of these birds. For this the Government should have devised a mechanism to compensate the farmers who incur loses. Many environmentalists, ornithologists, and tourists had highlighted the problem facing the Wetland, but the concerned agencies did not take notice of their concern. As such the Gharana Wetland showed signs of slow decay. It was also reported that the number of winged visitors also started falling due to shrinking area.
It is urged to all stakeholders to come forward to save this wetland for posterity.
Yours etc…
