JAMMU, Feb 15: Climate Front’s Jammu chapter organized ‘Save Raika’ awareness march from Environment Park, Sidhra to Raika village.
The event which based on the concept of Chipkoo movement was followed by other practices such as showing ones love for the environment. The volunteers and various other participants in an attempt to bring to notice the chopping down of 38,006 trees in order to build a new High Court complex in Raika Forest tied love knots to trees, hugged trees and also chanted slogans.
The volunteers spoke in length about the significance of preserving our biodiversity and also laid emphasis on the fact that the Raika forest can be equated to human lungs for the residents of Jammu due to its proximity to the city and the rich flora and fauna it possesses.
Chahat Mahajan, an active member of the organization discussed how the organization has been working day and night and has been successful in creating a nationwide awareness campaign to protect Jammu’s own Raika. She also urged the Government authorities to look into sustainable means of development and ensure that our biodiversity remains preserved.
