Saviours of Nowshera remembered

RAJOURI, July 3: The Indian Army commemorated the supreme sacrifice made by Brigadier Mohd Usman and his men, who attained martyrdom defending the nation during 1947-48 operations in the Nowshera Sector, during a grand yet solemn memorial function held today at Jhangar and Nowshera
The function was organised by Indian Army’s Ace of Spades Division and it included laying of wreath at Usman Memorial, Jhangar and felicitation of Veer Naris and veterans.
A cultural event showcasing unity in diversity was also organized at Butalia Auditorium, Nowshera wherein, young children mesmerised the audience with their spectacular performances. In the run up to the celebrations, over a span of one week,  Army had also conducted a medical camp, veterinary camp and cultural competition for the border villages of Nowshera sub division.
‘Nowshera-Ka-Sher’ is a title given to Brigadier Mohd Usman (MVC) for his bravery and valour during the 1947-48 operations, who along his men not just prevented the capture of Nowshera town but in a fierce battle, recaptured the Jhangar area from Pakistan before succumbing to his injuries on July 3, 1948. Indian Army joins the entire nation in saluting the supreme sacrifice of the brave heart.
