JAMMU, Sept 19: Senior Congress leader and Congress-National Conference candidate from Jammu East Assembly constituency, Yogesh Sawhney has pledged that Congress party will remove the controversial Smart Meters installed in the region.
During a public meeting in Jammu East today assured the people that the removal of these meters will be a priority, echoing the sentiments of many residents who have voiced strong opposition against them. This has become a key issue in the constituency, with mounting concerns over their accuracy and the inconvenience caused to the public.
During ongoing door-to-door campaign, many people voiced the same concern.
Sawhney highlighted that the Smart Meters were installed without proper public consensus, leading to widespread dissatisfaction. He stated that the decision to implement these meters ignored the people’s concerns and that the meters have proven to be faulty in many cases, issuing inflated bills that have burdened households.
“These Smart Meters were forced upon the people without understanding their implications. They are faulty and have created unnecessary financial pressure on families,” Sawhney said.
The Congress party, in its manifesto for Jammu East, has also included the removal of Smart Meters as a major promise. Sawhney reiterated that Congress stands firmly with the people on this issue and will work towards ensuring that the faulty meters are removed and replaced with a fairer system. “We are committed to addressing this issue as it directly affects the livelihood of our citizens,” he added.
Several areas of Jammu East have been particularly vocal about the problems with the Smart Meters, leading to protests and demands for immediate action. Residents have reported receiving inflated electricity bills and experiencing disruptions in the supply due to faulty readings. Sawhney’s promise has resonated with these citizens, who see this as a step toward relief from an ongoing struggle.
Sawhney said that his stance on the Smart Meters is expected to be a defining issue in the campaign. His promise to remove the meters aligns with the larger public demand for transparency and accountability in governance, making it a central theme for Congress-NC’s push to win the Jammu East constituency.
