JAMMU, Mar 5: The State Bank of Patiala (SBOP) today opened its 1111th branch at border town R S Pura.
The new branch at R S Pura is the 6th branch of the State Bank of Patiala in Jammu & Kashmir which symbolizes the Bank’s vision of extending its financial reach to the State, especially in the agriculture sector.
The branch was inaugurated by the Managing Director of the Bank Achal Kumar Gupta and the Principal Secretary Planning, Government of J&K, B.R. Sharma.
Spelling out the vision of the bank, the MD said that its branch in the area would strive towards the financial inclusion of farmers with small holdings who constitute a majority in this town famous for its very own Basmati Rice. He mentioned various schemes offered by the bank, ranging from farm incentives to farm mechanization as well as inputs required by the farmers to enhance production.
Deputy Commissioner Jammu Sanjeev Verma also elaborated on how farmers, traders, bankers and the common man can have a mutual relationship of trust which would lead to a win- win situation for all stakeholders involved.
CGM NABARD also made encouraging remarks on the role of State Bank of Patiala in Punjab and how it can bring its banking experience to benefit the people, especially the farmers of J&K.
On the first day of the opening of the branch, the bank issued 25 Kissan Credit Cards (KCCs) worth Rs 35 lakh, while the first saving bank AC was opened by the Sub -Divisional Magistrate (SDM) RS Pura.

Chouhan- AGM Jalandhar Zone, B.B. Mattoo, Chief Manager Jammu Branch, besides kissan leaders Sarpanchs and Panchs of surrounding villages of R S Pura attended the opening ceremony.
Harvinder Singh- Asst Manager Samba and Anvit Vyas- Asst Manager RS Pura made important contributions in making the entire event a success.
