NEW DELHI, Mar 7: The Supreme Court Collegium recommended that Jammu and Kashmir High Court Justice Atul Sreedharan be repatriated to his parent court – the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
Justice Sreedharan was transferred from Madhya Pradesh to Jammu and Kashmir in April 2023 after the judge himself sought the transfer on grounds of his daughter entering law practice in Madhya Pradesh.
The Collegium has now recommended that he be transferred back to Madhya Pradesh.
“The Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held on March 6, 2025 has recommended repatriation of Mr. Justice Atul Sreedharan, Judge, High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, to his parent High Court i.e. High Court of Madhya Pradesh,” a statement published by the Collegium on the website of the Supreme Court said.
Justice Sreedharan was the junior of Senior Advocate and former Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium from 1992 to 1997.
From 1997 to December 2000, he practiced independently in Delhi before shifting to Indore in the year 2001. He then served as counsel for State and Central government, before being appointed additional judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court in April 2016.
He was appointed a permanent judge of that High Court on March 17, 2018. (barandbench)
